Thursday, October 29, 2009. 2009 Red Brick Championship VI is scheduled for Saturday, February 21, 2009 and will be held, as in the past, at the Lewiston Red Brick School. This year’s event looks to be even bigger and better than last years with some changes that I feel will be for the best for all the competitors.
One big change is that we have decided to have it sanctioned by the SSA. We have many assisted and raw lifters that could make the top 100 and even the top 50 list but not recognized because we have been unsanctioned. We want our lifters to receive the recognition that they deserve and we feel that the SSA will help us achieve that privilege. The Syndicated Strength Alliance (SSA) is based here in New York state and run by Zane and Sandi McCaslin, powerlifters like ourselves. Their sanction fees are the most reasonable at $20.00 for adults and only $10.00 for the teen divisions and under. Our competitors will also have the chance to set or break existing SSA state records in raw (standard), single ply or multi-ply divisions. This is a recommended option but not mandatory.
Another change is to add a $10.00 penalty to curb late applications and walk-ins. I know we never did this before but last year’s event was delayed almost one hour because of nearly 20 walk-ins. It takes time to add names, opening lifts, weigh-ins, etc. We took them in because the additional money was for the troops and their families. If you think you will be competing in the last few days, at least call me with your name, weight you hope to be at, opening attempt and we won't charge the penalty fee (Dennis Brochey, 716-200-3533). It's easier to just hit the delete button if you don't make it than to add all the information at the meet.
Thursday, October 29, 2009. I have worked out a deal with the Portage House Motel, 280 Portage Rd, Lewiston NY 14092. They are located only 6/10 of a mile from the Red Brick School House and walking distance from any restaurant in Lewiston. Their price is only $40.00 but you have to make sure you mention you’re a competitor at the Red Brick Bench Press Championships. They don't have an email address but you can call them at (716) 754-8295.
Thursday, October 29, 2009. Don Davis Auto World has again donated a two night stay at Peek’n Peak Golf and Ski Resort, 1405 Olde Rd, Clymer NY 14724. This is a beautiful spacious two bedroom Northgate condominium with a kitchen, fireplace, bath etc. along one of their many ski slopes. You can ski there in the winter or go golfing at two nearby golf courses during the summer months. There are also two nearby pools available all year long. This is a “$750.00 VALUE” that will go to the individual or group that helps raise the most money for our troops and their families. Arrangements must be made ahead for availability on dates you wish to stay. This does not include the cost of skiing or golfing but the stay of a fully equipped condo.

Thursday, October 29, 2009. A success last year was the deal we offered all competitors and we're doing it again this year. The deal is any competitor that sends us a donation through sponsors of $100.00 or more will compete at the Red Brick for Free!! This will not include the cost of a sanction card but the cost of the application fee only. This is a $40.00 deal for you the competitor and all you have to do is get your boss, church, organization (Moose Lodge, Kiwanis, Lions Club, etc) area business or multiple sponsors to total $100.00 or more and your application fee will be waived. Keep trying for more and get in the running for the grand prize of a two night stay at Peak n’ Peek Resort. Remember, 100% of all sponsor money goes directly to our troops and their families through the Military Family Support Group. Also note that all sponsors will have their names on this year’s banner that will read "U.S.A. Powerlifters are Here for You Because You are There for Us". We have hopes that this banner will also make it to Iraq and to have a return picture of it.
